Caring for a child with a life limiting illness can be extremely challenging. Our pediatric palliative and hospice care services are here to help you, your family and your healthcare team to care for your child at home.
Pediatric Palliative Care (PediPal)
Our PediPal program provides pain and symptom management, assessment and case management, spiritual care, social services and counseling for your child and other family members—especially other siblings. Complementary therapies are an integral part of the program, offering a holistic approach toward meeting the needs of the child and their siblings through music therapy, massage therapy and engagement with a child life specialist. We also provide volunteer support, respite care and bereavement care for family members. This palliative care service is partially funded through a Massachusetts Department of Public Health Pediatric Palliative Care Network grant—with the remaining costs being funded through donations.
The hospice approach is holistic and includes emotional, spiritual and practical support, in addition to medical care. Services are provided by a specially trained and licensed interdisciplinary team of experts including physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, home health aides, homemakers, counselors and other volunteers. This team works closely with the child’s community doctors and other providers.
